The following report from Charlie Goldberger reviews
the 2009 Loucks Track Meet and the involvement of members of
the Rotary Club of White Plains; we can all be proud of our Club's involvement
in and support of Loucks.
Report of the Glenn D. Loucks Track and Field Games May 7-9, 2009 Held at White Plains High School The Glenn D. Loucks Track and Field Games were held at White Plains High School on May 7-9, 2009. This was the 42nd anniversary of the games and they were a huge success, thanks largely to the assistance provided by the Rotary Club of White Plains and its members. More than 260 teams totaling over 2500 athletes were present at this year’s event, making it the largest on-site high school invitational track meets in the country. The Rotary Club fed 855 athletes and coaches at the Friday night dinner held at the High School cafeteria. Among the Rotarians who worked non-stop for over three hours were Mike Baker, Nick Wolff, Don Sharp, Tina Mancuso, Victor Marks, Charles Goldberger, Micaela Kelly, Dorilla Misquero, Bob Lapp, Al Vogel and Carolyn Johnson. On Saturday morning, the Rotary open 5k run attracted 128 entries – more than we have ever had before. Thanks go the Rotarians who helped at registration, served as marshals, bought and served refreshments after the race, and generally helped to make the event a great success. They were Nick Wolff, Micaela Kelly, Mike Baker and his friend, John Zuckascus, Carl Winterrose, Tina Mancuso, Collette Gotte, Neil Connelly, Alan Lowenfels, Paul Katz and Steve Taft. Harriet Lerner and Victor Marks handled the water stop at the race. We have been receiving generous contributions towards our goal of making a $3,500 contribution to the games. We are almost at the $3,000.00 mark. Please keep your contributions coming. Special thanks to Nick Wolff and Leon Silverman for underwriting the T-shirts for the 5k race. Special thanks also go to Mike Baker who raised over $1,700.00 from friends who supported his run. Again, this year we were the single most important contributor and sponsor of the Loucks Games. We were again thanked profusely by members of the Loucks committee and officials of the White Plains School District. I will be distributing Journals which indicate our involvement in the event. I hope I have not inadvertently omitted any Rotarian who pitched in to assist over the weekend. Thanks to all of you for your support in this worthwhile annual endeavor. |
