Andrew and Marianne Morzello hail from White Plains, New York where Andy served as President of his local Rotary Club in 1986-1987 and Governor of Rotary District 7230 in 1994-1995.
Andy has a long record of Rotary service dating from 1963 when he was a Rotary Foundation Scholar studying at the University of the Philippines. He has served on his Rotary Club’s Scholarship, Rotary Foundation, Finance, Fund Raising and New Members Committees.
During his year as President, membership significantly increased, a new vocational service program with White Plains High School was implemented, the meeting place of White Plains Rotary moved from The Coachman Hotel to The Crowne Plaza Hotel and the first women members were inducted into The Rotary Club of White Plains by the President of Rotary International M.A.T. Caparas – marking the first time a Rotary International President inducted women into Rotary. For these achievements, White Plains Rotary was awarded District 7230’s Outstanding Membership Development and Retention Award and Outstanding Vocational Service Program Award.
At the District level, Andy has served as Chair of the Rotary Foundation Committee, the Educational Awards Committee and District Trainer (3 times) . He has served Rotary International as Governor of District 7230 in 1994-1995 when he stabilized the membership level of the District; achieved 99% of the goal for the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Giving Fund – the largest amount ever raised from District 7230 for annual giving at that time; implemented the ‘Safe Smiles’ program providing anti-abduction identification for over 6,000 children in his Rotary District; authored and promoted Rotary Matching Grants for Ecuador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica; raised over $250,000 for various Disaster Relief efforts around the world and led all 44 Clubs of his District to achieve outstanding community and global service which caused the President of Rotary International to award a Presidential Citation for Rotary Community and Global Service to each of the forty-four clubs in District 7230.
He has been a Presidential Representative to District 6540 in Indiana, USA. He has also served as his District’s representative to the 1998 and 2010 Councils on Legislation. He has been active in Rotary Zone and International Conferences by serving as Entertainment Program Chair for the 1996-1997 Rotary Institute for Zones 31 and 32. In 1997-1998, he chaired the Program Division for the Rotary Institute for Zones 31 and 32. In 1998-1999, he was Program Chair for the Rotary International President’s North American Conference – ‘ Rotary Reaches Out To Children.’
In addition, Andy served as Special Assistant to the District Governor for 2002-2004. He also served as an Alternate R.I. Representative to the United Nations where he was responsible for the Rotary-UN Day program.
This distinguished Rotarian of faithful and consistent Rotary service was honored in 2001 by receiving the Rotary Foundation’s Certificate of Meritorious Service. He continues to serve our District as President of The Rotary District Foundation, and Immediate Past Chair of our District’s Manual of Administrative Procedure. He continues on the Board of Trustees of The Grassroots Peacemaking Foundation. As a Paul Harris Fellow ( many times over) he continues to support the Rotary Foundation through his contributions to the Annual Fund. In 2022, he was the first recipient of The Andrew Morzello Lifetime Service Award from Rotary District 7230. This will become an annual award given in Andy’s name.
In his professional life, Mr. Morzello has been Director of Adult and Continuing Education as well as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Business for the White Plains Public Schools. He also has served his local church as Director of Education. He has distinguished himself as a person giving freely to community service by serving as President of the New York State Association of Community and Continuing Education; Chair of the New York State Education Commissioner’s Advisory Council for Adult Learning Services; Chair of the United Way of Westchester and Putnam Counties and Chair of The Westchester Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Andy also has served as the Treasurer of the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester. In addition, Mr. Morzello is coauthor of Concepts In American History – a textbook for high school students.
For his professional and community service, Mr. Morzello has received the Larry Levin Professional Service Award – the highest award of the NY State Association of Community and Continuing Education; the Senior Citizen of the Year Award from Westchester County; and The Medal of Honor from the Archdiocese of New York for 50 years of service to the youth of New York.
Mr. Morzello has been married to Marianne since 1969. Andy and Marianne have one daughter, Maria, and son-in-law, the late Dominick Paternoster, and two beautiful granddaughters – Alexandra and Sienna Paternoster
