Report of the Glenn D. Loucks Track and Field Games
May 10-12, 2007
Held at White Plains High School

The Glenn D. Loucks Track and Field Games were held at White Plains High School on May 10, 11, 12, 2007. This was the 40th anniversary of the games and they were a huge a success thanks largely to the assistance provided by the Rotary Club of White Plains and its members. More than 230 teams totaling over 1700 athletes were present at this year's event making it the largest on-site high school invitational track meet in the country.

The Rotary Club fed almost 1,000 athletes and coaches at the Friday night dinner held at the High School Cafeteria. Among the Rotarians who worked non stop for over three hours were Joe and Jo Falcone, Mike Baker, Nick Wolff, Helene Mogridge, Don Sharp, Tina Mancuso and her friend Steve, and Micaela Kelly. Next year, if we have the same number of students, we could use additional help.

On Saturday morning, the Rotary open 5k run attracted 121 entries - more than we have ever had before. Thanks go to the Rotarians who helped at registration, served as marshals, bought and served refreshments after the race and generally helped to make the event a great success. They were Neil Connelly, Nick Wolff, Micaela Kelly, Mike Baker and his daughter Jennifer, Helene Mogridge, Jonathan Schere, Paul Katz, Carl Winterrose, Alan Lowenfels, Tina Mancuso and Steve and Collette Gotte.

My son, Dan, and his mother, Grif, handled the water stop at the race.

We have been receiving generous contributions towards our goal of making a $5,000 contribution to the games. We are almost at the $4,000.00 mark. Please keep your contributions coming.

Special thanks to Nick Wolff and Leon Silverman for underwriting the tee shirts for the 5k race. Special thanks also go to Hubert Herre, who besides making the Crowne Plaza available for athletes to stay at a reduced rate also underwrote and recruited a 12-person Crowne Plaza team for the race.

This year we were by far the single most important contributor and sponsor of the Loucks Games. We were thanked profusely by members of the Loucks committee and officials of the White Plains School District. I will be distributing Journals which indicate our involvement in the event.

I hope I have not inadvertently omitted any Rotarian who pitched in to assist over the weekend.

Thanks to all of you for your support in this worthwhile annual endeavor.
