Daryl Moss Inducted
RCWP President #107

June 28, 2022 -- New club President Daryl Moss was officially inducted for the 2022-2023 Rotary year. Daryl gave a simple yet complete and moving acceptance speech that motivated all members to confidently look forward to the upcoming year.

Outgoing president Jill Owens was unable to attend due to work obligations, so Jill recorded her year's "remembrances" on a 10-minute video. We passed the gavel from the former presidents to the newest, and Daryl officially became the club president.

Lauren Reischer from Special Olympics presented the organization to us via Zoom, from her office in NYC. Lauren is not only an equestrian, but such a positive leader and influencer who is paving the way to create equestrian sport inclusive for all riders. After being born with cerebral palsy, she was introduced to therapeutic riding at a very young age and has stuck with it ever since.

As she continued her riding career, Lauren was able to join the equestrian team at Brown University and later even became captain of the team. Here's a wonderful writeup of her at Brown University: https://brownbears.com/news/2019/8/19/go-forth-unafraid-lauren-reischer-cerebral-palsy-and-brown-equestrian. 'Field of Screams'

The Miracle League of Westchester is the organization that runs an adaptive baseball league for disabled kids and adults.

This event was hosted by the Miracle League at the Ridge Road Park, Hartsdale. More than 800 kids registered for this special Halloween dress-up party.

We handed out candy and interacted with the kids and parents. Of course everyone came in costume!

"20230606 Dinner to Elect Jill Owens to Prestigious HALO CLUB"
^top

Past President Jill Owens' term ended June 30, 2022, but we delayed having the Halo Club dinner until June 6, 2023. So in Jill's 49th week as a "past" president, we held the dinner at the Harrison Meadows Country Club. The food was excellent; the speakers were exciting; the Halo Club members praised Jill and ultimately voted (unanimously!) to admit her into the prestigious club.

One highlight of the evening was the song written by Karl Milde to "welcome" Jill into the Halo Club. Sung to the tune of Frere Jacques, the song is titled Sister Jill. Karl's lyrics are very creative, asking if Sister Jill is ready to join the club, because "we heard knocking."
